I’m going to let you in on a little money saving secret. You might want to sit down for this one because it will change the way you shop!
If you find an area rug that doesn’t quite fit in your space, don’t be afraid to cut that rug into pieces!
Recently, I did this with one of my clients. We decided an 8′ x 8′ square rug would be the ideal shape and size to go under her round table. The issue was all the 8′ square rugs we finally were either cost prohibitive or simply didn’t work in the space. However, while shopping at one of my favorite stores, Homegoods, we were able to find a beautiful 8’x11′ rug for only $98 on clearance! Who can pass up a bargain like that? Not me, for sure! I suggested we purchase the 8’x11′ rug and have it cut to the size we needed. My client was certainly skeptical but she trusted me. (FYI, she ended up being very glad she did). I took the area rug to our local rug binder. He charged $75 dollars to cut the rug, bind all the edges with new threading of my choice, and have it back to me in 3 days! So now we have a beautiful rug for under the table AND a coordinating rug for her kitchen! We literally saved hundreds compared to other rugs we found that would have worked in her space. And it looks AMAZING! if I do say so myself.
I hope this has opened you mind to some new possibilities while you are shopping. When you are styling your space on a budget, be sure to think out side the box! If you like what you are seeing here please share with your friends.
